New indie dream pop song – Stars for your scars

Ahh! I’ve released a new song called Stars for Your Scars. I’m really excited about this one (but I literally say that every time).

Stars for Your Scars is another single off my upcoming Echoes of You album and it pairs perfectly with the themes of my upcoming novel (also named Echoes of You).

How my song “Stars for Your Scars” came to be

You might think it all started with the Echoes of You book but that isn’t entirely true. It actually started a long time ago when I wrote a simple poem for my husband. Some of the lines were:

“If I could paint you the sky and cut out the stars

I would sew them together to cover your scars

Your lips on my lips; my hands on your face

That one perfect moment…

My favourite place.”

But as I worked on the book, I realized that some of those words were perfect for the scenes and the love that unfold between two of my main characters.

It is so hard not to spill too much about the book as I write this post 😆 But hey, think of this song as a bit of a glimpse into the world of Echoes of You and the love story that unfolds between Lyn and Dash 😍

Why I chose to create an indie dream pop song

It wasn’t exactly intentional. I hadn’t even heard of dream pop before 🫣 and I was conditioned a long time ago to think the label “pop” was bad. The word “pop” always made me think of heavily produced, auto-tuned, written-by-someone-who-isn’t-singing-it music. So, why would I want my entirely self-produced music to carry that label?

Once I set my ego aside for a moment I realized that genre labels are important for helping people find my music. And those labels change over time. And from what I can find, the term “dream pop” seems to capture most of the music I’ve made for this album.

Dream pop elements you’ll find in Stars for Your Scars:

  • (mostly) softer vocals with many layers
  • dreamy, ethereal overall vibe
  • heavy reverb
  • some echo elements
  • synth… but soft… not in your face

Dream pop is the perfect genre for my Echoes of You album

Without revealing too much about the book, let me tell you this…

Echoes of You (the novel) has an ethereal air to it. Our female main character often wonders whether she’s awake or dreaming and spends a fair amount of time bouncing between actual dreamscapes and nightmares and her real life.

Dream pop, as a genre, is all about capturing that dreamy feeling. It’s a lot like psychedelic rock in that way. It fuses echo reverb and minor chords to give the feeling that something is just a little bit off, or distant… like reality itself has been tipped on his head.

I hope you enjoy this new song and that you’re getting ready for the full album and book release coming sometime next month (September 2026) 😉
