Have you always dreamt of being a successful artist but never managed to follow your dreams because the hurdles seemed insurmountable? What dream have you left on the back burner too long?

What will it take for you to go back?

I used to think being a successful artist meant hitting it big and making money from my art

The first picture is me playing my first (and only) show back in 2012. It wasn’t long after this that I stopped making music for a variety of reasons. Mostly, life got in the way. Priorities changed. And without any help or direction it just seemed rather pointless to keep going.

I was wrong, though.

The second picture is me recording “Alone (2025)” in, well, 2025… lol.

That life is rushing through me, again.
I can’t feel it in my bones. I can feel it in my soul.

And that’s why I say I was wrong back in 2012 when I walked away from music.

I was wrong because I thought that I would only be successful artist in my music career if I could truly define it as a career. I thought I had to tour and sell albums and get signed and maybe even have a band. I thought people had to know who I was and listen to my music for me to be successful.

But, what I forgot was what making music gave to me.

Being a successful artist means that something good comes from your art, even if it’s something deeply personal

Music gave me escape, expression. It was fun. I felt exhilarated every time I made a new song. Whether anyone heard it or not. That was the success I needed to focus on. The success of having something that supported my mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

So, I might have fewer than 20 monthly listeners of Spotify and just over 100 subscribers on Youtube. I might not be playing shows (my body just won’t allow me). And my songs might be competing with AI slop on the internet airwaves 🙄 But, I’m making music again. And I’m doing it for me.

I finally found the balance

So, I’ve won. I’m successful.

As a sidenote, I’ve also changed what I believe it means to be a successful author and visual artist. Because the same principal applies on all fronts 😉
