The studio is a healing place
Let me be clear, everywhere I make art is a healing place. Whether I’m writing books and short stories, writing things for my blog, drawing charcoal sketches, or sitting in my studio to work on a new song – it’s all healing.
But there’s something special about the studio.
There’s something special about getting lost in making a beat, recording guitar, breathing in some vocals, and then endlessly tweaking all the settings and effects until I get just the right mix.
It’s the one place where time truly stops and I lose track of everything else. And damn does it feel good!

Creating the right vibe in my home studio
I know everyone says millennials are all about vibes but, you know what? I don’t care! π I’m very vibey, to be honest. Without the right vibes, creative projects are VERY difficult for me.
I’m talking rainy mornings, dark evenings, and hotel lobbies for writing stories.
The drone of the TV in the background for artwork.
And when it comes to music, it’s all about colours for me. I need just the right ambient lighting, dancing colours, and decor that makes me want to sing… I wish I could explain that better π but…
Here’s some of how I’ve made my home studio a place I want to create in:
- Colour changing twinkle lights on the ceiling
- Lamp with a pink shirt thrown over the lampshade (thank God for LED lights that don’t get hot)
- Artwork on the walls in colours I find calming yet invigorating all at once (for me, that’s pastels ocean and sunset colours with a pop of something darker now and then)
- I also write on my walls (something my sister-in-laws both wish I would stop demonstrating for their children π€·π»ββοΈ)
The bet way to make the home studio feel like a healing place
….is to meet yourself there with kindness.
I don’t make my music about money. I don’t focus on how many plays I’ll get (and if you look at my Spotify stats, that shows π«£). But I don’t really care.
I don’t make music to make money.
I don’t make music to be rich and famous.
I’m honestly not a big fan of the spotlight (part of why I often leave the pressures of social media).
I make music because I enjoy it. Because it feels good. Because it heals.
I share that music in hopes that I can help someone else heal if they happen to find it. And so, yes, I promote it a little bit. And, hey, who doesn’t like to be recognized a little bit for their accomplishments.
But none of that makes it into the studio. In the studio, it’s just me and the music. No end game.
And that’s the most important part.
